All cattle, Limousin stud, Angus stud, and Commercial are run together in hill country, and brought to the flats for calving, mating or show preparation.

1971 saw the first importation of Limousin semen into Australia. This was used over the White Lakes Angus Stud females, taking advantage of the previous ten years of successful beef cattle breeding.

From it's beginning, the Performance of this herd has been monitored by the National Beef Recording Scheme, run by the Agricultural Business Research Institute at the University of New England, Armidale, NSW  Australia 2351.

EBV’s (Estimated Breeding Values) for fertility, growth, and carcass are blended with structure to achieve a balance that is aimed at producing an improvement on each previous generation.

At "White Lakes" we observe the  Limousin Assurance Program, the Beef Cattle Seedstock Producers Code of Practice, and are CattleCare Accredited.

Mating occurs over a period of only nine weeks. All matings are by Artificial Insemination, except for any back-up matings by homebred bulls. Sire selection is made on a worldwide basis, but also using yearling homebred bulls in the regular Artificial breeding program.

Embryo Transfer is an integral part of the breeding program, and fine tuned to produce calves born at the same time as the main drop.

Heifers are expected to calve at 23-24 months of age.

Continual genetic pressure has resulted in this herd becoming renown for both it's feminine females and it's fertile bulls with balanced breeding and beefing traits.

Three White Lakes females have been exported to, and a half share in another purchased by, North American Studs. The Canadian import went on to become the Grand Champion of the Calgary Exhibition. Semen from the homozygous polled Trait Leader Sire, "White Lakes Rawhide" is being used in four continents.  In recent years three WL females have sold in Australia for $20,000 or more.

Lim National.gif (244499 bytes)Very little showing is undertaken these days, however the list of Limousin animals shown by White Lakes, that have achieved one or more broad ribbons at National or Royal Show level, numbers above ninety.

Buyers of our bloodlines continue to enjoy great success in the Show ring, in the Sale ring, and in the meat markets.
